Celebremos La Vida, La Memoria

The Día de Muertos Celebration is one of the most meaningful cultural events presented by the Latin American Coalition and the Levine Museum of the New South.

Now in its 22nd edition, the celebration brings together families, artists, students, and community organizations to honor the Mexican tradition of remembering loved ones who have passed.

Día de Muertos is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, highlighting its cultural importance and the role it plays in preserving traditions, memory, and community identity.

Through art, storytelling, music, and community participation, the celebration shares the beauty and symbolism of this tradition with the broader Charlotte community.

Visitors will experience a vibrant cultural event filled with meaning, artistry, and connection.

In 2026, we invite you to celebrate with us once again.

Symbolsof Día de Muertos

These symbols represent remembrance, celebration of life, and the connection between generations.

Altares Comunitarios

One of the most important traditions of Día de Muertos is the creation of altars, or ofrendas, which honor loved ones who have passed away.

Altars often include photographs, candles, marigold flowers, favorite foods, and personal items that celebrate the life of the person being remembered.

Community members, schools, artists, and organizations are invited to create altars as part of the celebration.

Visitors will have the opportunity to walk through the altar exhibition and learn about the stories and traditions behind each display.

Calaveritas
Literarias

Another beloved tradition of Día de Muertos is the creation of Calaveritas Literarias.

These short poems humorously reflect on life and death while honoring the spirit of the holiday.

Community members are invited to submit their own calaveritas as part of the celebration.

Selected poems will be featured on the Latin American Coalition’s social media channels leading up to the event.
